Satisfied with your Job!? – Summary

Hi,

Most of the rich people were having a job or running a business in what they really love to do or to work in. The same applies for artists, sports men and women, musicians, actors, actresses’ etcetera. Some of them are even extremely rich. They all have a passion, are having the needed talents, worked very hard, had luck, continuously took actions, learned from mistakes, continuously wanted to improve and so on. They had a mission, clear goals and a robust plan to make it happen. I’m pretty sure all of them were coached and mentored as well.

It is key to know yourself and to really conclude what you passionately love in life. Visualizing what you love to do without looking at boundaries. If you have such dreams you may well find out where you want to be in five years from now. Of course the reality is an important element and must be considered. I can dream about being a popular rock singer surrounded by multiple beautiful female background singers all adoring me. That is not realistic. It will not happen. I can’t sing.

A job coach can help here. Knowing your talents and development needs are important to include in your plan, delivering you to your realistic end-goal. There where you want to be in about five years.

By asking the right open questions a job coach must be able to explore the coachee’s passion and talents. It is essential to collect honest and realistic answers. If a coachee doesn’t appear to have a healthy level of ambition, there may be a reason or cause for it. Good coaching may also help to (re)create motivation and or a positive mindset. I would be surprised if coaching will not provide added value to both the coachee as well as to the employer, future employer or business. In my current role as job coach it is my passion to ultimately achieve a win-win situation here.

As just one personal opinion and example Lionel Messi is an extremely talented and good football player at FC Barcelona. He is continuously successful and year after year in the top three ranking of best football players in the world. To me he is the number one of all times. He is coached continuously, even by coaches having much less football talent then him. I would not be surprised if he practice football every day, and invest a lot of time and efforts in practicing. He is continuously improving his skills, strengths and effectiveness. He is at the top and wants to stay there. Football is his life.

The previously highlighted quote from Steve Jobs fits here: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet keep looking. Don’t settle.”

I know what I want, and I know where I want to be in about five years from now. I know my capabilities and do understand my development areas. I’m reshaping my plans and continuously work on it. I’m taking preparation actions and will kick off in Quarter four this year with a big revision.

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading – Lao Tzu”

If a person is having a passion and is sufficiently talented it is not guaranteed that dreams will be fulfilled. Other elements are important such as courage, acceptance of taking risks, luck, business talents etcetera. I will highlight these additions in future blogs. It is key to have a sound understanding of your own capabilities and character. Despite that I’m convinced that coaching can contribute here as well to help people getting there where they want to be. So I asked myself which essentials are needed to be and remain satisfied with my role as employee.

My eight essentials for Job Satisfaction, not in sub sequential order:

  1. Salary: fulfil human needs, wealthy life, and fair towards efforts/investments.
  2. Recognition: Tasks that matters and being recognized.
  3. Contribution: Work in teams, comply with clients requirements.
  4. Adding Value: Achieve a better product or service, increment client satisfaction.
  5. Responsibility: Involvement in decision making. Your opinion count.
  6. Leadership: Influencing, make others perform better, coaching and mentoring, develop leaders
  7. Development: Autonomy, growth
  8. Pleasure: Collaboration and fun

Priorities may differ for each person. Some of the essentials may even be seen as non-essential. It depends on the person and the person’s ambitions as well as goals. So by listing mine I hope readers and followers will respond to it, and challenge the essentials or acknowledge them. I will investigate the commonality and the as big as possible average.

In next blogs I will elaborate on the essentials and detail out additional views! Hope to receive feedback and many thanks in advance!
